MONOTYPE CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY TO G. CARTER [by telegraph—OWN* correspondent] TAURANGA, Friday The Now Zealand monotype championship was sailed at Tauranga to-day in the Cornwall Cup boats. The race started at 11.14 a.m. over a course of about five miles. The competitors were Auckland, Plimmertoii, Wellington. , Manukau, Paremata and five Tauranga skippers. Tauranga (G. Carter) was first away, closely followed by Manukau, Auckland, Wellington, Plimmertoii and the others together. The first leg was a run down the harbour to the Basket beacon. Auckland did well on the run down rounding the mark with a shortlead from Tauranga (Carter), with Wellington, Manukau, Tauranga (Stevens) and Pliinmerton in close order. On the second beat back to the wharf Carter improved his position and won. The finishing times were: —Tauranga (G. Carter), 12h 10m lis; Auckland (S. Mason), 12m 11m 41s; Wellington (H. St'utter), 12h 13m 12s; Plimmerton (Watson), 12h 14m 40s; Tauranga (B. Sneddon), 12h 15m 20s; Tauranga (T. Benson), 12h 17m 2s; Tauranga (L. Stevens), 12h 17m 355; Manukau (A. Sames), 12h 17m 50s; Paremata (M. Coleman), 12h 18m 50s; Tauranga (C. Jordan), 12b. 20m 40s. The race for Cornwell Cup delegates was sailed this morning and was won by Auckland. There was a steady southwesterly breeze, the race starting off the town wharf at 10 a.m.. A good start saw Auckland away first, followed by Tauranga, Wellington, Manukau, Christchurch, Plimmerton, Hamilton, Whangarci and Paremata. On the run down the harbour Auckland and Tauranga drew ahead. It was a beat back to the finishing lino off the wharf, in a long leg on the starboard and shorter tacks on tho port. Auckland and Tauranga kept well in on the far shore, standing halfway hack on one board. Auckland (R. Reid and S. Mason) finished at lOh 25m 41s. The other finishing times were: —Tauranga. lOh 27m 8s; Plimmerton. lOh 28m 255; Hamilton, lOh 29m 4s; Wellington, lOh 30m 335; Christchurch. lOh 30m 535; Manukau, lOh 32m 28s; Whangarci, lOh 35m 50s; Paremata, lOh 39m 50s.

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES THE WINNERS CONGRATULATED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAURANGA, Friday Several hundred people gathered on the town wharf this afternoon when tho trophies won in the Cornwell Cup contest were presented by Mr. A. J. Mirrielees, patron of tho Tauranga Yacht and Power-boat Club, to Melville and Kenneth Watson (Plimmerton). The commodore of the club; Mr. T. F, Connor, read telegrair.s of congratulation to the winners and personally conveyed his club's congratulations. The trophies comprised the Cornwell Cup and a gold medal to each lad, while badges will bo forwarded later to the winners. The Monotype Championship Cup and miniature were presented "to Graham Carter, of Tauranga. and a wallet to D. Reid, of the Takapuna Boating Club, who won the Cornwell Cup delegates' race. The ceremony closed with cheers for the competing crews and the commodore, and the people of Tauranga.
