WARNING TO WIVES
STORY OF MOTHER HUBBARD The sad story of Mother Hubbard, who went to the cupboard and found it bare, should be a parable taught to every young wife starting housekeeping. Whatever emergencies arrive, and however much welcome but uninvited guests overstay their time, at this hospitable season of the year, there should be always something in the cupboard to fall back upon. A well-filled store cupboard is capital to the housewife, something to rely on not only for extra visitors, but when the week's money is depleted. Here are some suggestions. An extra packet of mixed herbs, a favourite cereal like lentils, rice or macaroni, a packet or two of custard powder, a tin of soup, and a tin or two of a favourite fruit, such as pineapple or apricots. Some corned beef, and you are always spfe for a sandwich or a savoury hash, or good, plain, cold meat and pickles. You can make your store cupboard as large or small as your purse permits, but if it' is only just one. small shelf, there should nhvays be a tin or two of baked beans, with their slice of savoury pork.
