HUGE INCREASE IN COST GERMAN FIGURES WITHHELD BERLIN, Jan. 5 A report from the Institute of Business Research shows that the defence expenditure of the world in 1913 was £833,000,000. It totalled £1,250,000.000 in 1928-20, and £2,500,000,000 to £2,900,000,000. in 1936. Russia's bill has increased 10-fold in the past eight years, Japan's 1 100 per cent, Franco's 5(3, Britain's 39 and the United States' 38 per cent. No figures are given for Germany.
