PROFITEERING ACT INQUIRY INTO COMPLAINTS NO PROSECUTIONS MADE [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Since the Prevention of Profiteering Act was passed toward the end of the recent session of Parliament complaints have been received by the Department of Industries and Commerce concerning price inci eases in a wide range of commodities. In each case investigation has been made by officers of the department. The .Minister, Hon. I). G. Sullivan, said that while it was necessary to make investigations into all these complaints received from the public, theie had not been any prosecutions under the Act. Jn a few cases where there iiad been gross exploitation of the public the department had been successful in having refunds made to purchasers and reasonable prices fixed. Generally speaking, business people dealt with by the department under the terms of the Act had been reasonable and helpful in their attitude toward the department's investigations.
