THE WAIHI MINE CLAIM FOR THE BONUS SETTLEMENT REACHED WORK TO RESUME TO-DAY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT J WAIHI, Wednesday An agreement satisfactory to both parties was reached <it n late hour this evening in the dispute between six members of the South Auckland Ln gine-drivers' Union and the Martha Goldmining Company ("Waihi), Limited, concerning the extra yearly payment which has been made to the men since 1925 and which the men did not get this year. Work in the Martha mino and the company's batten,- at Waikino will start at 8 o'clock to-morrow morning. Negotiations took place during the day and a solution was not reached until to-night, when the men concerned met the mine authorities, including the New Zealand director of the Martha Company, Mr. It. G. Milligan, who had made a special visit to Waihi. The employers and the men had the assistance of the inspector of awards at Hamilton, Mr. Mclvor. KAMO AND RUATANGATA MEN ACCEPT PROPOSAL HIKURANGI WORKS STILL IDLE [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday The offer of the directors of Kamo Collieries, Limited, to pay the 10 per cent increase to day wages men demanded at a stop work meeting yesterday, the question of arrears to be decided by arbitration, was accepted by the men this morning. Work was resumed pending a conference of both parties under an independent chairman to bo appointed by Mr. C. P. Collins, inspector of factories and awards. Ituatangata Collieries, Limited, to-day also decided to offer their men the same conditions, and work will be resumed in this mine to-morrow. There is no change in.the position at the Hikurangi Coal Company's workings at Hikurangi, the mine still being idle. The safety men continue to keep the mine free of water. It is estimated that the cost of this work in wages and boiler coal is £l4O a week. Mr. G. Duggan, of Wellington, chief mining inspector for New Zealand, arrived at Hikurangi to-day. It is not expected that any further development will take place until early next week.
