THREAT TO ACTRESS
ATTEMPT TO EXTORT MONEY ACCUSED PLEADS GUILTY (Received January 5, 10.43 p.m.) LOS ANGELES. Jan. 4 James Hall, who was arrested on December 6 in connection with a letter threatening the lives of the film actress Ginger Rogers and her mother, pleaded guilty to-day to an attempt to extort 5000 dollars from Miss Rogers. He will be sentenced on Wednesday. A message from Hollywood on December 6 stated that Miss Ginger Rogers and her mother were being guarded by Federal agents following the receipt of two letters threatening their lives unless the sum of 5000 dollars was paid to the writer. A later message stated that James Hall, aged 20. a sailor on the naval aircraft-carrier Lexington, had been arrested in connection with the letter.
