THE STOCK EXCHANGE

Sir. —It was with pleasure that 1 opened my Hkisai.i) on Tuesday and found that Australia had resumed business on the stock market. Comments and complaints have boon made about the flight of capital from Now Zealand to Australia. However, when one desires to buy or sell a stock which is listed in both countries, and it is imperative tluit a deal be made, it naturally follows that one must deal in that market which is available. Now Zealand brokers close earlier and open later than their colleagues in Australia, so if profit in the way of commission is lost to tliein. surely they cannot blame their clients. But perhaps the brokers can afford to work shorter or fewer days than, say, such small markets as London, Sydney, Melbourne! Your list of quotations in Tuesday's paper proves the big movement that has taken place during the first day. and no doubt will continue, before the powers who guide and servo us hero are prepared to outer the lists on our behalf. Jack Pi,am;.
