Canterbury therefore won 011 tho first innings. Both matches played at Christchurch this summer have been interfered with by rain. In the first rain gave Canterbury a lucky first-innings win over Auckland, and in the second Canterbury was deprived of a chance of forcing an outright win against Wellington. POSITIONS OF TEAMS AUCKLAND IX THE LEAD Each of tho four provinces has now played two matches. Canterbury has won both on tho first innings, but it is behind Auckland on points as the latter has an outright win and a loss on the first innings to its credit. Wellington has held the trophy eight times and Otago twice. Canterbury has yet to play Otago at Dunedin. while Auckland will meet Wellington at Auckland.
