CONTRAST IN KINGS

ENGLISH BISHOP'S VIEWS GEORGE VI. EULOGISED LONDON, Tan. 3 The Bishop of Peterborough, Dr. C. M. Blagden, writing in his diocesan publication, contrasts "a King declining the burden of State" because of a desire for domestic love and peace, with "a King whose family life has been an object of admiration and envy, and who is ready to sacrifice much private happiness in order to be a servant of servants to his countrymen." The Bishop adds that nobody would ever desire a throne. "King George VI. ascended it because the claims of the country demanded the sacrifice of his freedom, thereby repeating the lesson of devoted public service given by King George V. and Queen Mary, in the sincerity and selflessness of their official life."
