REPORTING IN SPAIN
COURAGEOUS FRENCHWOMAN Mine. Andreo Violis, well known in journalism and literature, in both France and England, has recently been in Spain, seeing at close quarters all that is going on, and reporting what she sees with an impartiality which is more than admirable and of great value to the world. She has been literally in the thick of the fight for a long time and has shared in the sufferings of the women and children, states an overseas writer. This same courageous lady, with children who are now grown-up, lias travelled far in her lifetime and knows more about world affairs than, perhaps, any other woman in her profession. She has been to India and has written a book about her impressions and the conclusions she drew from what she saw. These have not all been proved right, but India might well defeat even the cleverest journalist in a short visit. Mine. Violis has been in the midst of the trouble of Africa and of Central Europe. She has met practically every leading politician and statesman in Europe and beyond. She knows the United States. She has lived hard in i most countries. However, Mine. Violis still keeps that look of rather soft femininity which is so attractive. Fair, not very tall, still slim and moderately well dressed, she looks just like any other woman of her class who does not make dress her first aim in life. It is when she begins to talk that you realise her power, though when making an afterdinner speech Mnie. Violis keeps her right of being very; womanly^
