The Morning Attempt When the attempt was made to hold the race this morning there was such a light breeze that the first hoat, Tauranga, took an hour to cross the starting line. It was followed by Christchurcli and Plimmerton, then there was a long gap to Auckland, the others following. Tauranga made headway on the east shore, and was-opening out a gap from Plimmerton and Auckland, which were having a good struggle for position. A little astern of Auckland were Manukau, Paremata, Wellington. Christchurch worked the shoals and was first round the weather mark, the order of the first six being: Christchurch, Auckland, Tauranga, Plimmerton, Paremata, Manukau. On the run back to the wharf Auckland drew away from Tauranga and closed on Christchurch, but it was found that there was 110 hope of the rase being i finished in time.
