HAWKE CUP RESULT SOUTHLAND TEAM DEFEATED VICTORY FOR MANAWATU [BY XELKOUAPn —PRESS ASSOCIATION] PALMERSTON NORTH, .Monday Dismissing Southland for 02 and J 12, Manawatu retained the ILav.ke Cricket Cup by an innings and :il runs in the second challenge match of the season. Manawatu, who were in a comfortable, but not an unassailable, position with an overnight score of Jit for eight yesterday, carried the total to 235. This was almost wholly dun to the magnificent stand for the ninth wicket by Pritchard. 73, r.nd Pollitt, 50. Southland fought hard to avoid an innings defeat, but found the bowling too solid and were dismissed for 142 (Warburton 20, Anderson 25, Uttley 23). Pritchard, the fast Manawatu bowler, who took six for 21 in the first innings, took six for 33 in the second. MATCH AT REMUERA A cricket match played between the English Public Schools' Club and Mr. W. If. Johnston's eleven, played at Remuera, resulted in a win for the latter by two wickets. Pukekohe hatted first and mado 140 runs (Hardy 40, W. Pleydell 35, C. Lawrio 21, Haslam 17, G. Lawrie 15) for nino wickets, when they declared. P. Howden took three wickets for 24, Jack two for 30, Dickson one for 21, Zinzan two for 23 and Stevens one for 21. Waiuku were all out for 10 runs. Moyle took five wickets for 0 runs, and C. PUKEHINA AND ALBION [by telegraph—own correspondent] TAURANGA, Monday A cricket match between the Albion and Pukehina Clubs, played at Pukehina, was won by Pukehina. Albion in the first innings scored 43 (D. Sinclair 1.4, R. Hunter 1.1), and in the second innings 20 (D. Sinclair 33). Pukehina in the first innings made 55 (W. C'larkson 35), and in the second 70 (W. Clarkson 22).
