ATTEMPTED FRAUD
; MORPHIA PRESCRIPTIONS EFFORTS TO OBTAIN DRUG " He did not actually get any drugs, but he admits having attempted to obtain morphia on three occasions, twice within nine days before Xew Year, on account of a weakened state of health through heavy work as a masseur." said Detective-Sergeant McHugh in the Police Court yesterday, when Bernard Ivlward Leslie Luks, aged 34, appeared for sentence on three charges of attempted fraud to obtain quantities of morphia from P. Howard Dawson by a false prescription. Representing accused, Mr. Moody said he was a single man, living at Ponsonby with his mother. Only 12 months ago he was released after being detained in an institution for five years. He had since done much good work with massage treatment, and had every desire to pull himself together. If necessary. he was prepared to go to Roto I'oa Island in the hope that it would have some cure effect, as lie had been addicted to drugs. Mr. Wvvern Wilson, S.M., ordered accused to appear for sentence if called upon within six months, when the mother of accused agreed that he would t>e kept under regular medical surveillance.
