ROOM FOR THE SMOKER

Sir, —Your correspondent, "C.L.", complaining about the conditions for a smoke in our tramcars seems to have overlooked the fact that smoking is a privilege granted. We do not pay for it. We pay only for the ride, and that gives any passenger the right to any part of the car, unoccupied, for that ride. Knowing that a great number of the motormen and conductors enjoy a smoke, but abstain from it during their working hours, surely it is no great hardship for anyone to abstain for one car ride. At least, I never find it a difficult matter. Cut Plug.
