DOMINION CHAMPIONS PLAY AT WELLINGTON SINGLES EVENT BEGUN OPENING DAY'S RESULTS [by TF.r.KCJnAPU I'RKSR ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday Tho Xcw Zealand Bowling Association's annual championship tournament opened to-day with play in singles. The 280 entrants were reduced to 77. Of these 13, with live wins, the possible, qualified with two lives for postsection play to-morrow, 40 with four wins, and 15, with three win.% qualifying with oik! life. Of seven men who have won tho singles in former years and who are competing this year all qualified. M. Walker, three times champion, was beaten by S. Sutton, Hawera, who, however, had only two wins. J. D. Best, 1925 champion, and W. Carswell, twice former champion, had five wins each. Engebretsen, 1935 champion, had a loss to T. Pollock. F. Livingstone, last year's champion, also has one loss to J. B. Jack, St. John's, who failed to qualify. J. M. Brackenridge came through with four wins, being beaten by G. B. Evans. W. Foster, another former champion, qualified comfortably.
