TWO FURTHER ROUNDS ABBOTT RETAINS LEAD The 10th and lltli rounds of the Dominion chess championship were deI oidod yesterday at Auckland. Abbott ! still retains the lead in the chainpionj ship with 8J points, while in the premier reserve contest Aislabie is leading with 10J paints. Following were the details of the play:— TENTH ROUND McNabb v. Erskine (Q.P.). —McXabb won <i pawn in the middle game and later a piece, and Erskine resigned at move 32. Lynch v. Anderson (Q.P.).—A hard even game drawn at move 30. Jones v. Beyer (Q.G. Orthodox).— Jones had slightly the better position, but-numerous exchanges left each with a rook and seven pawns. A draw was agreed upon at move 43. Severne v. Scott (Sicilian). —An even game p.djourned with material e\en. Abbott v. Hindin (Q.P.).—An even game throughout; drawn at move 37. Hunter v. Burrv (English).—Hunter won a pawn in the middle game and forced the position. Burry resigned on the 50th move. I Newick v. Kelling (Centre Counter). —Kcliing initiated a strong attack and j Newick lost a piece and then lost his ! queen.. He resigned at move 2-1. ELEVENTH ROUND Burry v. Newick (Q.P.). —Newick was suffering from fatigue. Hp sacrificed a piece mid resigned at the 19th nio\c. Hindin v. Hunter (French).—Hunter 1 lost the exchange on the 18th move and resigned on the 42nd move. ; Scott v. Abbott (Q.P. Colle).—Scott j sacrificed a piece for a strong attack i which nearly succeeded, but he resigned on the 23rd' move. Erskine v. Lynch (Reti). —A short "but complicated game in which Erskine overlooked a check and gave awa\ a piece. He resigned on the 24th move. Bever v. Severne (Reti). —A hard frame drawn at 30th move. Anderson v. Jones (Q.P.). —A games in which some fine chess was seen. I'or some time Jones api>earcd to have the advantage, and he played for a win when he might have drawn. Anderson played a very skilful game, and Jones resigned on the 60th move. Kelling v. McNabb (Sicilian). —Kelling held an even position till late in the game, when ho took a pawn and allowed McNabb to attack two pieces with a rook. He resigned on move 49.
