MATTSON KIDNAPPING
POLICE ARREST SUSPECT RESEMBLANCE TO ABDUCTOR (Received January 3, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. Jan. 2 The police have arrested a suspect in connection with the kidnapping of the son of Dr. Mattson. The man arrested, who is a former prisoner, is aged 33 and resiubles the abductor except that ho has no noticeable accent. His name has not been revealed. His finger prints will be compared with those on the ransom note. Persons in close touch with the Mattson family state that tlio ransom negotiations have been delayed as the activities of nn impost-er posing as the kidnapper have created uncertainty. The authorities are detaining the suspect, although they cannot yet link him to tlio kidnapping. The police and G men are hindered by a multitude of clues, most of which they are certain are worthless, but must bo investigated.
It is indicated that the members of the Mattson family have not established contact with the actual kidnapper and their anxiety is growing.
