PROVINCIAL MATCHES CONCLUSION OF TOURNEY PLAY ON SOFT WICKETS SUBURBAN TEAM DEFEATED The provincial tournament under tho control of the Auckland Cricket Association was concluded on Saturday. Flav was delayed until after mid-day Ottillg to the rain of the previous days making the wickets unfit. When play Tvas commenced it was necessary to use the So. 4 and No. 5 pitches at Eden Park. The soft wickets gave the howlers an advantage and scoring throughout was s l,mv. Batting first on the No. 4 wicket .Auckland B was dismissed by South Auckland for 143. South Auckland replied with 93 for seven wickets. In the other match Poverty Bay, 102, heat the Suburban Association team, 10G. The games were limited to one clay owing to rain on Friday causing a postponement. The final points scored in the tournament- were as follows:—Auckland B, 9; South Auckland, S; Poverty Bay, S; >"orth Auckland, 5j Suburban Association, 3. The best batting performance on Saturday was that of H. Cotterall, Auckland, who scored SI not out. The nest best scores were: P. H. Don-, Poverty Bay. 51; C. Kerr. Suburban, 47; R. Glough, South Auckland, 42. The best bowling average was returned by R. Shepherd. Suburban, who took three wickets for 15 runs. Other jiood averages were:—l). A. "Wells, Poverty Bay, three for 21: P. H. Dow, Poverty Bay. three for 24; H. Goinji. South Auckland, three for 39; A. .1. Aitkcn. South Auckland, three for 48; C. Kerr, Suburban, three for 59.
