TRUCK IN HARBOUR
QUESTION OF SALVAGE BOARD ORDERS REMOVAL Although the approximate depth of the water is charted at eight fathoms, the exact location on the harbour bed of the lorry which lurched off the vehicular ferry Goshawk during the storm on Wednesday is not vet known and the salvaging will probably be a fairly long and difficult task. Nor, although the owner of the truck, Mr. W. Lovett, has been instructed by the Auckland Harbour Board that its removal is necessary, liavo-any arrangements yet been made for recovering it. The truck does not present any danger to shipping, but the Harbour Board has to insist that all large objects which fall into the harbour should be removed, and in the past all sorts ot things, including motorcars, have been taken out. Never before, however, has a vehicle had to be salvaged from so far out from the shore. This is also the first time on record that a vehicle lias gone overboard when a ferry was crossing the harbour. Sweeps will probably have to be used to find the truck and then a floating crane may be used, although there are various other ways by which a heavy object can be raised from the bed of the harbour. Mr. Lovett's truck was insured with the Yorkshire Insurance Company, Limited, for £2OO.
