SOUTH ATLANTIC FLIGHT MISS BATTEN'S TIME REDUCED (Received January .1, 5.5 p.m.) NATAL (BRAZIL), Dec. 31 The young French airwoman Mile. Marvse Bastie has established an unofficial speed record for the flight of 1281 miles from Dakar, French West Africa, to Natal, Brazil, for which Miss Jean Batten nolds the official record. Mile. Bastie's time was 12h 7m. Miss Jean Batten left Lympne aerodrome, England, on a transatlantic flight to South America by way of Africa on November 11, 1935, and arrived at her destination at Port Natal, Brazil, on November 13. She was the first woman to have made the flight and established two records. The time from Tjvmpne to Port Natal of' 61h 15m broke the previous record by 20h 53m and the time from Thies, near Dakar, French West Africa, to Port Natal of 13h 15m reduced the previous time by 3h 42m.
