Bean Crops

French beans which are in full bearing will appreciate a dose of weak liquid manure. What is even more important is to see that all pods are picked regularly before the beans within them commence to swell. Unless this is done they will not produce continuous crops. Exactly the same is true of runner beans. Once tliev begin to crop pickings should bo made every two or three days to ensure against leaving any to ripen seeds. Dryness at the root is a frequent cause of the beans shedding their flowers instead of setting. A thorough soaking at the roots and spraying over with clear water in the evenings after hot days will do much to ensure good setting.
