LONDON NAVAL TREATY
PENDING RATIFICATION BRITAIN AND FRANCE British Wireless RUGBY, Dec. 29 The ratification of the London Naval Treaty of 1936, by France and Britain, which will bring the treaty into force, is expected at a relatively early date. Both Governments are known to be prepared to ratify, and in the case of France normal Parliamentary procedure will be completed before long. The ratification by Britain, it is believed, may be deferred somewhat longer in view of the series of bilateral naval talks in which the Government is engaged. The idea of these conversations is to secure wider adhesion to the principles of the advance notification of annual building programmes, and of the exchange of information embodied in the London Treaty, as well as acceptance of the definition of categories of ships and standard displacements, and of agreed qualitative limits for each category for which the treaty provides.
