NORTJI-EA ST KI{LY GALES MUCH RAIN AND HIGH SEAS 'Flip woatlior report and forecast for New Zealand, issued Inst oveninp; by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A rather intense anti-cyclone covers most of the Dominion, with its centre of! the east coast of the South Island, hut a cyclone extends from the north Tasman Sea on to northern New Zealand. Forecast: North-easterly winds north of Kawhia and Gishorne. and winds between south-easterly and northeasterly prevailing, thence southward; strong to gale troni Cook Strait northward ami reaching strong gale force in parts of the Auckland Peninsula; elsewhere moderate, but increasing. Seas high north of I'last Capo and rough thence southward to Hanks Peninsula, elsewhere moderate, but rising north of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate easterly winds in the far southern portion, with moderate seas; elsewhere north-easterly to southeasterly, of strong to jralo force with rough to high seas. The weather is likely to be dull and misty over the North Island and stormy in the northern hall, with widespread rain, and rain extending southward to the northern and eastern districts of the South Island; many heavy falls, and some flooding is probable, rnoro especially in the Auckland Province; mainly fair at first, however, on the west coast of the South Island. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Stormy weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday, and rair. fell almost continuously. There was a strong easterly wind early in the morning, which abated slightly in the afternoon,, but increased again in tlio evening. Heavy rain fell during the morning, and there were frequent squalls throughout the rest of the day. Conditions were colder, the temperature at 4 p.m. being 61 degrees. The maximum temperature was 58.3 degrees. A very light north-west breeze blow in the morning and a moderate easterly in the afternoon. The barometer was steady last night at 30.35 in.
