TROTTING AT EPSOM

SUMMER MEETING OPENS FROCKS ON THE LAWN VARIETY AND COLOUR The brilliantly lino and warm weather which greeted the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting yesterday at Alexandra Park, Epsom, . attracted a large attendance and also provided racegoers with the opportunity of seeing the many charming and attractive fashions which the summer has brought with it. Filmy georgettes and chiffon frocks patterned in gay colours, figured crepe frocks in tailored styles and cool pastel-toned linens were equally popular, their colours blending effectively against the vivid green of the lawns. Flowers in matching tones and scarves of the gayest colours added brightness and variety to the suits and silk ensembles. The hats were another attractive feature of the frocking, many interesting examples of the now tall crowns, tho tiny turbans with shotted chenille veils, the upturned bowler and the halo hats being seen. The greater majority of women, however, chose wide-brimmed hats of straw, stitched crepes or taffetas, which, as well as being most becoming, provided shade from the heat of the sun.
