PROVINCIAL TOURNEY
BATSMEN ON TOP CENTURY TO C. WALTERS The second round of the Auckland Cricket Association's provincial tourney was continued yesterday at Eden Park. Conditions were ideal until light rain at 1.45 p.m. interrupted play, and intermittent showers for the last hour made matters unpleasant. As the tourney progresses the standard of play is showing a decided improvement, and the country players are adapting themselves very well to conditions which are foreign to them. A feature of the play yesterday was the line display of batting by members of the Auckland 13 team, who compiled the large score of 386 in just over four hours. The keen lidding of the North Auckland men is also a feature of the matches. The first century of the tourney was registered yesterday by C. F. Walters, the North Shore batsman, who, captaining the Auckland B side, scored 120. A. Robinson, playing for the Suburban Association team, was unlucky in not having anyone to stay with hint, and lie was unbeaten with 98. The best of the other scores were: —W. Dunning (North Auckland), 68; I. W. Cooper (Auckland B), 6-3; 0. J. Langton (Auckland B), 56; V. Scott (Auckland B), 55; G. Sidcllo (Auckland B), 35; G. Lawric (North Auckland), 33. With big scoring, the bowling honours were well distributed, the best of which were: —P. Dunning (North Auckland), threo wickets for 19 runs; N. Vipond (North Auckland), three for 25. Play will be continued to-day at 10.30 a.m.
