A still greater surprise was registered when True Trust scored in the second event to return over threequarters of a century on the straightout machine and double figures lor a lilace. Other good win dividends were returned by Bonny Azure, who won the St. lleliers Handicap alter failing in the Cup, and Groat .lewel, while Queen ie Direct, Bulimia King and Airtrait pait-1 fine place prices. The Auckland Trotting Cup was won bv the local horse King's Warrior, with the southerners Key Spec and Bed Siauow in the minor places. The Uowe Memorial Handicap was won for the second year in succession by Great Aumiral. Hie attendance was estimated at •15.UJ0. and the totalisator handled compared with £34.881 last VC ar, an increase of £13,041. Vain Lad, who also began well, headed Pura Bingen at the end of the first round, but lie broke badly and lost his position, Pura Bingen a taking command with Baby Triumph, Sophy Bingen, Grand Triumph and All Special handy. Going along the back Pura Bingen was clear of All Special and Vain Lad with Sophy Bingen and Klissa closest of the others. Pura Bingen continued to trot solidly and when Vain Lad broke again in the straight she was able to heat him easily bv three lengths. Mute and Bittersweet were quickly in the lead, but when the stands wore reached Corrianda was in command from Franz Derby, Mute, Bittersweet, Mountain Sun. Gala Day, Fleet Arrow and Great Admiral. Corrianda dropped back slightly near the mile and a-quarter and at the stands the second time Franz Derby and Bittersweet were the leaders from a bunch comprising Corrianda. Great Admiral, Mountain Sun. Meadow King, Audo Patch and Mute. 'Three furlongs from home Bittersweet and Great Admiral began to draw away arid at the straight entrance Great Admiral was clear of Bittersweet. Meadow King, Corrianda and Captain Bolt. Great Admiral stayed on solidly to win by two and a-half lengths from Meadow King, who broke near tlic post. Corrianda was a length and a-half away third and Captain Bolt was a close fourth.
