NEW ZOO EXHIBITS
30 BIRDS AND ANIMALS ARRIVAL FROM EAST TO-DAY Thirty new exhibits for the Auckland Zoological Gardens will arrive from the East to-day by the Union Company's chartered steamer Narbada, which is due in port shortly after noon. Most of the now arrivals are from the Singapore Zoo, but others are from the Alipore Zoo, Calcutta. The new stock comprises animals and birds. From Singapore there are nine apes, representing four varieties of the Gibbon species, a pair of pigtail monkeys, a pair of leopard cats, two pairs of mandarin ducks, a pair of Burmese pea fowls., and a fire-backed pheasant. Eight cattle egrets and a pair of kites arc being brought from the Calcutta Zoo. Zoo officials will meet the steamer and the new exhibits will be placed on view almost immediately. All will be well displayed, especially the apes, which will be tethered to the poles in tho low-lying area near the centre of the 7.00. The consignment is the largest which has arrived at Auckland for a considerable time. Tho pigtail monkeys and the leopard cats are the gift of Mr. Watney Sibun, of Auckland.
