UNIVERSITY SITE
Sir,—Now that Christmas is over and there are a few days left for New Year resolutions is the time not appropriate for those interested in tha welfare of the Auckland I niversitv College to give its future very serious consideration? Plans are now well advanced for the erection of a large block on the only breathing space about the buildings, and if once these are carried through any move to an adequate site in a suitable locality will become all but hopeless. To anyone acquainted with the provision made for universities in older lands it is obvious that on its present crowded site almost in the heart of the city the Auckland University College can never hope to fulfil some of its main functions. Even if it should become possible to secure the adjoining Government House site the chief objections will still remain. Unless the institution is content to remain as little more than a glorified night school the whole problem of site will have to be faced sooner or later, and obviously the longer it is left the graver the difficulties of change become.
