UNEMPLOYMENT IN BRITAIN SURPLUS ANTICIPATED (Received December 25, 6.45 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Dec. 24 Tho unemployment insurance statutory committee is at present examining the state of the insurance fund, and it is anticipated that a surplus of £7,000,000 a year will bo found available for disposal. Employment is good and tlic income of the fund is consequently high, with a relatively low expenditure. Following the usual practice when a surplus is in view the statutory commitcee has called for suggestions for its disposal. Tho general council of the Trades Union Congress has recommended the abolition of the waiting week before benefit is paid, the incrcaso of benefits, and the extension of the benefit period beyond the present 26 weeks.
