ROYALTY GOES SHOPPING

CHRISTMAS RUSH AVOIDED Tho Queen Mother, accompanied by the Princess Royal, recently spent a morning buying Christmas presents, states a London writer. It was interesting to see Princess Mary's method of shopping. She brought a shopping list to the War Disabled Ex-Service Men's sale at tho Imperial Institute and carried it and a small silver pencil in her hand as she walked round Leather work attracted the Queen Mother at one stall. It is brightly coloured and worked in patterns. Her Majesty bought a leather wallet in this work. Quilted chintz cushions in pastel shades were another purchase. Queen Mary chose one in pale blue, with a design of white lilies of the valley, and has ordered patterns of peach chintz to make a similar cushion to bo sent to Marlborough House. She made a particularly careful choice of silk handkerchiefs. She wanted to find designs which would appeal to men—something they would really like. Her final selections were two dark blue handkerchiefs with small red designs, and three green handkerchiefs patterned in different designs of blue, red and yellow.
