Gladstone's Third Son
Of the four sons of W. E. Gladstone it Was the third, Henry Neville, who carried on the commercial traditions of the family. Both in Calcutta and in ■London he obtained a position of eminence in the world of finance and commerce. A memoir, written by Mr. loor Thomas, tells the story of his career. In his later years the interest which dominated all others was devotion to his father » memory. He sought ways in which his father might have a worthy memorial in those places and among those sections of society where the name of Gladstone was held in special honour. He applied his father's maxims to his own life so that when at the age of 80 he was made a peer he did not fail to attend (he House of Lords to vote against the Ottawa agreements and for the Government of India Bill.
