MACHINE LOCATED CRASH NEAR MELBOURNE SEEN WAVING TO SEARCHERS (Received December 15, 9.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec, 15 Searching aeroplanes have located the aeroplane of Pilot-Officer Eric Vernon Bead, who had not been heard of since his ascent yesterday to take meteorological observations. He had crashed in the bush on Mount Wallace, about 50 miles from Melbourne in the direction of Ballarat. Read appeared to be trapped in the cockpit and was seen waving to the searchers. A land party expects to reach him to-night. The pilot is 21 years of age, and is stationed at Laverton airport. It was feared that he might havo flown out to sea in the terrible weather.
