INTERNATIONAL TENNIS
COVERED COURTS TOURNEY There was disappointment on the Continent when Britain was seen to be missing from the draw for the King Gustav Lawn Tennis Cup, which the Swedish King, who still plays'regularly at the age of 78, has given' for an international covered courts competition. The challenge round will be played in Stockholm between Sweden and tho survivor of eight other scountries and, as the latter may well be France or Germany, there are prospects of a match between K. Shroder, holder of the British covered courts singles title, and either J. Borotra or G. von Cramm. Denmark having beaten Norway in a preliminary round, the draw now stands as follows: —Germany v. Belgium, Ireland v. Denmark, Holland v. Finland, France v. Czechoslovakia. The competition has been organised on Davis Cup lines, with four singles and a" doubles, and "zone" matches leading to the final. Some think the international lawn tennis calendar is already too heavily ' charged, and they wonder if the new. competition will be a success with the public.
