PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD

PROPOSED WORK SCHEME "it is disheartening to meet such unfounded criticism," said Mr. W. A. Cairns, at the Pnpatoctoe Town Board meeting last night, when objections to a works scheme were received from tho Papatoetoo Welfare League. Tho league said it strongly protested against the ratepayers' money being spent on the tennis courts frontage while residents were without footpaths. Mr. Cairns said tho league was misinformed and it seemed to find objections when any improvement schemes were advanced.

The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said there was no question of the hoard's funds being called upon, as the scheme was advanced by the local tennis club. Tho board had approved of the proposal, which would he o.' : benefit to the district. It would bo preferable lor tho league officials to make inquiries before making criticism. It was decided to reply in terms of the chairman's remarks.

Objections to the board sending a delegate at the board's expense to tho Municipal Association conference at Timani in March, 1 ( J37, wen; expressed by Mr. Cairns. A motion bv Mr. K. 11. Nolan that, the chairman be appointed delegate and tho board meet the costs involved was carried, Mr. Cairns dissenting.
