MAORI LAND SCHEME
BLOCK NEAR TAURANGA PROGRESS OF DEVELOPMENT [by telegraph—own cohrf.spondent] TAURANGA, Tuesday Good progress is being made in the development of the Kaitemako block at Welcome Bay, by the Native Affairs Department. Six hundred acres have been brought into pasture and the farm is now carrying 1351 Pomiievcross owes with 1452 lambs, and 360 head of mixed cattle. A total of 2(5 bales of wool was shorn and has been forwarded to Auckland. Jhe lambing tally reached over 100 per cent and buyers are already in the field in the lamb exporting interests. Notwithstanding the heavy stocking feed is ahead of the stock and a further draft of 1000 wethers is now on the road from Gisborne. The Kaitemako block' is one of a number of farms in the Waiariki Maori land district that is being developed bv the department. Jt is within a mile of the Tauranga borough and for many years was a neglected area.
