BARQUE REWA SOUVENIRS

BINNACLE AND WHEEL GIFT TO CRUISING CLUB [FROM OT7R OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGARET, Tuesday The Whangarei Cruising Club has received two unexpected gifts, the binnacle and wheel of the four-masted barque Rewa, the hull of which forms the breakwater at the island home of Mr. Charles Hanson at Moturekareka, in the Hauraki Gulf.

In an accompanying letter to the commodore of the club, Mr. A. McKenzie, Mr. Hanson stated: "I have licen asked by numerous cruising clubs for these two portions of the Rewa, but. I prefer to donate them to a club which docs not function near a deep sea port, and in consequence does not have the same opportunity of obtaining such souvenirs. In the event of the club ceasing to function, the binnacle and wheel are to be handed on to the Whangarei Museum and remain the property of tho people of Whangarei." Mr. Hanson also intimated that he was endeavouring to obtain a photograph of the Rewa in full sail, which would be presented also to the Whangarei Cruising Club.
