LADY ALMONER
POSITION AT HOSPITAL BOARD'S DECISION DEFERRED The desirability of appointing a lady almoner to the Auckland Hospital was stressed by tho medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Craven, in a report to the Auckland Hospital Board in committee on December 1, according to minutes presented at an ordinary meeting of tho board yesterday, tho board's decision has been to defer consideration of tho matter ponding investigation. Dr. Craven said tho activities of a lady almoner would include assistance in obtaining suitablo work for certain typos of cases, inspection of some homes and of children before their discharge from hospital, tho co-ordination of social benefit societies working <Vn behalf of hospital patients and th<> making of arrangements for the payment of charges incurred for hospital treatment. The decision of the board in committee was that the matter should be (Inferred until reports could be obtained of the work of similar officers in other main hospitals of the Dominion.
