TOWN HALL CEREMONY

OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION RECORD OF THE MAYOR The official proclamation of the Duke of York as the new Kins will ho read by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, from a dais in front of the Town Hall at 2..M0 o'clock on Monday afternoon. Members of the Legislature, the City Council, the Consular Corps, chairmen of public bodies, and representatives of the Churches have been invited to attend. A guard of honour will bo provided by units from the New Zealand Division of the ltoyal Navy, the military forces and the Royal New Zealand Air l r orce. The Auckland Municipal Uand also will be in attendance. The following telegram expressing allegiance to the new King was sent by Mr. Davis to tho Prime Minister, tho Kb. Hon. M. J. Savage, yesterday:— "Will you kindly associate tho corporation and citizens of Auckland with the message transmitted by the New Zealand Government to His Most Gracious Majesty the new King, and convey to him an expression of our continued and unswerving loyalty to tho Throne.'' When Mr. Davis reads tho proclamation on Monday it will bo the third occasion 011 which he has proclaimed a new King. As Mayor of Newmarket, he read the proclamation of tho lute King Georgo V., and earlier this year, as Mayor of Auckland, he read tho proclamation of King Edward. Tho Mayor of Nottingham, Sir Albert Ball, also read his second proclamation when King Edward succeeded to the Throno, and references in tho Kngli.sh press suggested that his record was probably unique. As Sir Albert is now out of office, it seems likely that the record of Mr. Davis, after he has read his third proclamation on Monday, will be unequalled.
