Monday Thrown from her horse when it stumbled and reared while descend-, ing a bridle track near 4he junction of Crawford Road and Wellington Road, ori the southern slope of Mount Victoria, Wellington, shortly before noon to-day, Lady Galway suffered an injury to her left eye, abrasions to her face and concussion Lady Galway had been out ridiug with her son, the Hon. Simon Monckton-Arundell, and was return, ing to Government House when she was thrown.
Her Excellency was given assistance by her groom and by a man working near by, and was then taken to a private hospital. To-night she was re. ported to lie resting comfortably and her condition was regarded as satisfactory.
Lady Galwav is a good and enthusiastic horsewoman and frequently goe» riding with members of her family on the hills surrounding the city. The party to-day had been riding on the Town Belt, and the riders were coming down the slope of Mount Victoria at a walking pare to Wellington Road, following a track which dips fairly steeply in a series of shallow terraces. Lady Galway and members of her family had ridden that way before without mishap. When the riders were nearing the level of Wellington Road, Lady Galwav's horse stumbled and reared several times, throwing its rider heavily. Lady Galway's face struck the gravelled pathway.
