MAHURANGI CHARGE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS Practically every pioneer family connected with the" Mahurangi Presbyterian charge was represented at the various gatherings held during the celebrations in connection with the 80th anniversarv, which concluded at the week-end, when the Moderator of the Presbvterian General Assembly, the Kt. j>ev. T. H. Roseveare, took a prominent part. , r On Saturday afternoon. Mr. Koseveare addressed a gathering at a garden partv held at "The Grange," the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hamilton, on the banks of the Mahurangi River. Several interesting photographic groups were taken during the afternoon, including one of members of the original congregations under the first minister, the Rev. Robert McKinney. Another group included Mrs. M. J'-, E- Taylor, the only member of the family of the late Mr. McKinney present at the gathering, her son, and grandson, together with the Moderator, the home missioner, Mr. D. B. Stewart, and members of the session.
Services were conducted by Mr. Roseveare at Leigh, Matakana and Warkworth on Sunday, and at the evening service at Warkworth a large photograph of Mr. McKinney was unveiled by his daughter, Mrs. Taylor. The photograph was the gift of Mrs. J. M. Malcom, a daughter of the late Captain W. Southgate, for many years well known in the district. The first service to be held for many years in the church at Mahurangi Heads, where the building has recently been repaired, took place on Sunday afternoon.
