CYCLE REGISTRATION
PROPOSAL OF MOTORISTS REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCABGILL, Saturday The registration of cyclists was advocated at a meeting of the South Island Motor Union at Queenstown last night. Members were unanimously in favour of the move, it being stated that registration would be in the interests of all road users. Mr, H. H. Henderson, of Otago, in moving a remit that the Government should be approached to embody ip the new regulations the registration of cycles, condemned the practice of riding two and three abreast. It was a common breach, he said, and there were no means of identifying offenders. .Registration would solve this and many other problems. Mr. G. S. Morris, of Canterbury, advocated the registration of bicycles to facilitate the apprehension of cyclists who violated the by-laws. At present the police had little or no means of identifying offenders. Mr. y. W. Johnston, of Christchurch, said that the registration of cycles should be left to -fche Government and not to local bodies. The remit was carried. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr. P. It. Harman, who was a member of the executive. Mr. Angus Donaldson, of Christchurch, was elected to the vacancy on the executive caused by Mr. Harman's death.
