TWO-YEAR-OLDS SPRINT
Tlio No. 1 grass, with the polos 10ft. out, was available for galloping at Fllorslie on Saturday, when a fair amount of fast work was executed. The going was good. The tan and sand were also freely used.
On the grass, Valspear (Tremain) was too good for an un-nained mare by Musketoon —Foxglove (Jenkins) over three furlongs in .'l9 4-ss. Valspear raced below form in the Takapuna Plate at Ellerslie, but ho looks bright and well and should give a good account of himself when next produced. Master Brierly (Goldfinch) and Huntsman's Chorus (Murray) ran six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. They were assisted over the last half-mile by Round Up (Vaughan) in 51 3-ss. There was little between thoin at the end and Master Brierly again pleased, while Huntsman's Chorus worked solidly. Tidewaitor (Goldfinch) and Glen Abb (Goldfinch) sprinted three furlongs in 38 2-ss, These novices continue to show promise. Chief Emerald (Vaughan) strode over the same ground in 43 3-ss. Gay Broney (McTavish) completed his task with an easy half-mile in 57 3-ss. Ho did not show up in the St. Andrew's Handicap, his only start at the TaJfapuna mooting. Jolly Dance (Tremain) ran half-a-mile in 525. She is rounding into shape nicely. Dialogue (Murray) covered five furlongs in 1.6 1-5. He did his work well and appears to be all the better for his outings at the Takapuna meeting. School Song (Jenkins) placed half-a-mile behind in 51s. '
Big Dook (Goldfinch) was let off with an easy task, running the last three furlongs in 41 4-ss. Ho looks bright and well. Droll and Lady Gainsborough moved evenly over three furlongs in 3!>s. The two-year-olds Manatcre, Aero King and the filly by Surveyor— Llanore sprinted three furlongs smartly in 38 2-ss. Manatere, who secured the best of the start, was slightly in front at the end, but Aero King, who covered more ground than his companions, was the most impressive. Lady Diana showed her customary speed over half-a-mile in 51s, the first furlong taking 12 3-ss. Seven Seas hit out well over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. He is to bo tried as a hurdler. On the two-year-old track White Foam ran three furlongs in 37 3-ss. She has a useful turn of speed.
TRAINING AT HAWERA SOLOIST SCHOOLS WELL [by telegraph—own correspondent] HAWERA, Saturday j Both tho plough and the course proper were in good order at Hawera | this morning. Oil the plough, Brioni completed five furlongs in 1.4 3-5; Advance Plane, four in 50 3-ss; and Autumn Leaf, three in .'36 3-ss. Master Limond finished two rounds of strong pace work with a working gal|jop over the last three furlongs. Pie has improved considerably since racing at'Feilding. Wotan, who has brightened up, and is looking better than ever, pulled hard throughout two rounds of steady pace work. On the course proper, Little Robin covered four furlongs in 53 2-ss, Corowa and Fairy Dale taking 525. Trim and Fair Day ran three furlongs in 38Js. Trim - was impressive. Fricsland shaded Gay Step at the end of five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. Friesland continues to do well. Shemseh and the Musketoon colt in J. Fryer's stable dashed over three furlongs in 37 l-ss. Settlement covered three in 43Js, running very green. Soloist gave a great exhibition in a round of the schooling hurdles. Ho is to do his holiday racing at Ellerslie. Sceptic jumped carefully once round, not putting on much pace. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB SCRATCHINGS POSTED King Musk was withdrawn for all engagements at the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting at ( J o'clock on Saturday morning.
TROTTING BREVITIES NEWS FROM ALL SOURCES Recent form has resulted in the following reassessments being made:— Grace McElwyn, 2.11, 2.44, 4.151; Grand Mogul, 2.10, 2.41!, 4.25; Gunfire, 2.12, 2.45, 4.29; Reporter, 2.10, 2.43, 4.32; and Willow Wavo, 2.11, 2.44, 4.26. Kewpie's Triumph, who went south to J. Bryce last season, has returned to Auckland, but has not yet made his appearance at Epsom. He was not given many opportunities in the South Island and the chango of venue was not beneficial, as tho horse did not thrive and lost much of iiis condition and " bloom." Tho promising two-year-old Ringstone, by Ringtriio from Intaglio, dam of Free Advice,' has returned to J. T. Paul, her breeder, at Mangere. The lilly made progress while under the care of L. Laver at Epsom and was regarded as one of tho most likely provincial candidates to be rc;-dy for the North Island Challenge Trotting Cup, to be run in February.
STEWARDS' INQUIRY DRIVER FINED £25 Following the running of the President's Handicap at tho Wniknto Trotting Club's meeting at Claudelands on Saturday, the judicial committee held an inquiry regarding some interference that occurred to Our McKinnev about three furlongs from home. The committee decided that K l . .J. Smith, driver of tho winner King's Guide, was guilty of careless driving and he was fined £25. Ij. Laver was also fined by the committee for improper behaviour.
