LONDON STOCK MARKET EFFECT OF THE CRISIS SEVERE SETBACK EXPERIENCED (.Received December 0, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 5 The constitutional crisis pave the stock markets, which generally have successfully resisted foreign political developments, their biggest setback for two years. With sterling weak, foreign holders sold considerably, especially giltJedgeds, on Wednesday. Tho atmosphere calmed somewhat on Thursday, tho lower prices resulting in a moderate rally, but tho market, while convinced of tho essential order of British constitutional forms, remained apprehensive of foreign and Imperial repercussions. Moreover, tho position in Spain is still threatening.
Business showed a little increase on Friday, but, in spite of tho better tendency, the chief operators were bar-gain-hunters and bears. Gilt-edged securities finished practically unchanged, and heavy industrials improved.
