BUS TERMINAL
AUCKLAND SCHEME ERECTION OF MAIN BUILDING WORK TO START NEXT WEEK A start is to bo made next week with tho erection of the buildings of the municipal transport station on the old railway station site. The work is to he carried out under tho control of the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, with employed labour, the City Council having decided against letting the work by tender.
Preparations are now being made on the site for the commencement of building operations and already some of the sheds for the supervising engineer and his stall are being assembled. The administration building is to be constructed of reinforced concrete piers and girders with brick panels. It is to be a one-storey structure and is to have offices for the various transport services and public facilities such as waiting rooms, cafeteria and shops. There is also to be a long loading platform which will accommodate under cover eight service cars and 11 buses simultaneously during ordinary hours and 15 extra buses during peak loading hours, with further provision for the parking of 15 buses.
Mr. Tyler stated yesterday that a start woidd be made next week with the excavations for the foundations of the main building. The raised loading platforms would have concrete edgings or kerbs and tho surface would bo asphalted. As the building proceeded tho laying out of the roadways, parking area and turning space would bo put in hand. All these were to be paved in concrete. The station should be ready for use in from seven to eight months.
