EDUCATIONAL TOUR
VISITING TEACHERS Completing an extensive world tour which has included Japan, China, the Philippines, Java, Burma, Malaya, India, Ceylon and Australia. Miss S. Friedman, Miss A. Goldstucker, Miss E. Gross and Miss R. Gross arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Maunganui on a two weeks' visit to the Dominion.
The tour which, on their return to the United States, will have lasted for seven months, was undertaken mainly for educational purposes, Miss E. Gross and Miss Friedman being principals of primary schools while Miss Goldstucker was a junior high school teacher and Miss R. Gross a high school teacher. During their stay in New Zealand the travellers hoped to visit a number of schools which, they had heard, were conducted on somewhat different lines from those in the United States. In the United States travel was considered invaluable to a teacher and as many as possible were encouraged to spend their long vacation abroad. Summer schools for teachers were an alternative to travel.
