Star Artist, and Rollieker worked separately over six furlongs, hut could not be timet! on account of a heavy ground mist. Light Comedy bowled along over seven furlongs in 1.3(3 4-5, the iasi half-mile occupying 555. Respect lid was doing better than Phileiuup at the completion of six furlongs in 1.21) 3-5. Respectful is steadily on the improve. There was little between Soekettcs and Stanstead over five furlongs in 1 -10. Dark Shadow finished slightly in front of Sinking Fund over the deciding stages of a round in 2.7. They ran the first five furlongs in I.lo} and the last half-mile in otijs. Roth did their work well. AdaltMie, who had the better of the weights, was a length in front of (Jay Streak at the end of five ' furlongs in 1.7}, the last half-mile in 535. Ford Acre and Tavern Song were together over three furlongs in 38 4-ss. The best effort over five furlongs was that of Voting Paddon, who, after get- ' ting the worse of the start, was doing slightly better than Lornaere on the ]X)st> in 1.5 l-ss. Tosh Sprints Well Prince Colossus ran once round in 510, the last half-mile in 575. Steady Fire was in front of Calcutta, with Mangukaha a length and a-lialf away, at the finish of five furlongs in 1.0, the last half-mile in 535. Cometarian rf>.« five furlongs in I.ll}, the last halfmile in 575. Sic Tommy brushed over six furlongs in 1.20, running his last half-mile in 555. Tosh was just in front of Orac find Le Chasseur at the completion of live furlongs in 1.6}. losli worked well. A number of two-year-olds and maidens were given barrier practico. Susan, Pirate King, Tui Nui and Mangukowhai were jumped out at the seven-furlongs barrier. Mangukowhai was the only one of these to gallop, running half a mile in 555. The balance of the barrier practice was done from the half-mile barrier. Racoline was in front of 1" orest Aero, Malfrov, Trilliarch and a Bronze Eagle filly, who were sent from a barrier start to finish as named in 535. Royal Bachelor. BEDFORD DESTROYED FORMER WINTER CUP WINNER After attaining the age of 25 years, the racehorse Bedford met with a tragic end during the week-end. The horse, who had been in splendid physical condition for one of his age, injured one »f his hindquarters so severely that he had to be destroyed. Among the many races won by Bedford for Mr. F. J. Marshall were the Takapuna Cup in 1915, and the Winter Cup the samo year. Bedford had been running in a paddock since his retirement in 1919. 'lho Melbourne Cup winner will be kept in steady work for the Wellington Cup meeting and also he is to be nominated for the Sydney Cup.
