CLOUDY TO OVERCAST RAIN IN SOUTH ISLAND The weather report and forecast f or New Zealand, issued last evening b v the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyclono is passing eastward off the North Island, and a rather intense depression is approach, ing from the westward, barometers having fallen considerably iri the South Forecast: Winds north-easterly t 0 northerly, moderate to strong; generally, and of gale force- at places south of New Plymouth and Gastlepoint backing shortly to westerlies and in places to southerly in the southern portion of the South Island. Seas in Xe (v Zealand waters rough south of Cape Hgmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas, elsewhere moderate to rather rough. Eastern Tasman SeaModerate to strong north-easterly to northerly winds, later changing to southerlies in the far southern portion Seas rather rough to rough. The weal tlier is likely to be cloudy to overcast and in places misty or foggy, with rain probable over most of the South island and shortly becoming general. Some heavy falls in Westland and the far South. Temperatures mild. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST DULL, WITH IiALY SHORTLY The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:—Moderate but freshening ! northerly winds. The weather is likely j to become dull and misty, with rain shortly. Temperatures mild. Seas moderate to rather rough. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a continuation of fine weather yesterday, the wind being fresh northerly. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 68 degrees. Wellington.—.Most of the day was cloudy and overcast, with a fresh-north-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 65.8 degrees. The barometer fell slowly to 29.80 in. Dunedin. —Although the sky was mostly overcast, the weather was warm, the maximum temperature being 70 degrees.
