ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY

VICE-ADMIRAL AS RECTOR EVANS OF THE BROKE LONDON, Nov. 15 Vice-Admiral Sir Edward Evans, Commander-in-Chief at the Nore, has been elected Hector of Aberdeen University in succession to Mr. Walter Elliot. Viee-Adrniral Sir Edward Radcliffe Evans was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the African Station in 1933. He was born in 1881 and married the daughter of Mr. T. G. Russell, of Christchurch, Now Zealand. After being on the relief ship to the Discovery expedition in 1902-04 he was appointed second-in-command of the British Antarctic expedition in 1909, being engaged in work on the Bcardmore Glacier. On the death of Captain Scott Sir Edward remained in charge of the remaining members of the ill-fated expedition. He commanded H.M.S. Broke during her famous engagement in company with H.M.S. Swift against six German destroyers in 1917.
