NEGLIGENT DRIVING
LINESMAN CONVICTED COLLISION NEAR WIRI " Taking bends wrongly is the most common cause of accidents, and a lot of country people do that," remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, at the Otahuhu Tolice Court yesterday in convicting William Henry Johns, linesman, of Taumarunui (Mr. Holmden), of negligent driving. Evidenco was given that a motor-car travelling southward on its correct side near Wiri was struck by defendant's car, which was proceeding northward, at a bond. It was stated that defendant's car was straddling the centreline in taking the corner. Defendant said he attributed tho accident to a puncture in his right-hand back tyre, which caused the vehicle to swing. . A fine of £1 was imposed, tho magistrate reducing the fmo from £2 on being informed that defendant had travelled from Taumarunui to defend the case.
