'.I his provided for the supply of pipes, meters and liftings for the whole scheme, and the laying and jointing and execution of all labour. The total cost the scheme, including the construction of the reservoir, wouJd be £20,081. If the hoard obtained aJ2 per cent subsidy in respect of unemployed labour, the net cost to the board would bo £18,352. The figures included the cost of service meters, £ISOO, and a continuous recording meter, £2OO, which had not previously been included in the estimates. Jf those amounts wcro deducted, tho balance of £IB,OBI was the original estimated cost.

"This means that, by using concrete pipes, the amended scheme, with a Tin. supply main and substituting 4in. for 2in. pipes, will cost tho same as tho original estimate with a Gin. supply main."

Tho board's solicitor, Mr. J. T. Fleming, reported on raising the finance. His report and that of the engineer were adopted. Advice was received from the Department- of Labour that if the work was carried out by contract a subsidy equal to 12 per cent of the contract price would be paid, provided at least 80 per cent of the labour used was recruited from eligible unemployed. It was decided to accept the contract price subsidy.
